Why Williams
“Students work with each other, not against each other. Every student wants their peers to be the best version of themselves.”
An Education That Trains You How to Think
Williams has a long and storied history that begins with an ambitious vision for education that took root in the earliest days of our country. Today, our tight-knit community shares a sense of curiosity and an openness to new ideas. Here, in the mountains of Massachusetts, you’ll learn to expand the way you interact with the world.
Support That Meets You Anywhere
We will meet you, wherever you are, with comprehensive support—including the All-Grant Financial Aid Program, career and research funding, and wellness resources.
Together at Williams
Williams is built on close connections. Classmates, professors and alumni challenge you to grow in ways you don’t expect and support you in ways that matter. You’ll learn to connect and empathize with the range of people you meet in life—something that will always serve you well.
Liberal Arts at Its Best
Williams is known for small, intimate classes where you can follow your curiosities wherever they might lead. This approach to learning is at its best in our tutorials and Winter Study courses. Tutorials pair two students with a professor for a semester-long discussion that sharpens your ability to form arguments and engage in the art of persuasion. And every January, you can focus entirely on a topic of your choice in one of 150+ Winter Study classes.
Space to Think, a Place to Belong
Williams is set among the Berkshire hills, where you’ll find adventure in every season, from hiking trails that lead to panoramic vistas to clear blue lakes that are perfect for swimming and kayaking.
Express Yourself
Williams is part of a thriving cultural landscape with vibrant art museums and world-renowned theater, music and dance festivals. On campus, you can experience art at our own Williams College Museum of Art, take in performances by visiting artists, and join student-run groups that encourage personal expression in all its forms.
Get Moving
Williams is an active community with plenty of opportunities to move your body and nurture your soul. Borrow outdoor equipment from the Williams Outing Club. Pick up fencing or figure skating in one of our student-run club sports. Take a yoga class outside. We also have 32 NCAA Division III sports for athletes who are driven to peak performance on the court and in the classroom.
Join a Powerful Network
Williams graduates find success in every field—from medicine and media to business and the arts—yet they remain fiercely loyal to the place that started it all. We have the oldest alumni association in the world with 30,000-plus members who look out for one another. As a student, you can count on them for mentorship, job shadowing, networking connections and internship support.
