Faculty Conversations about Writing

Julia Munemo interviewed faculty across divisions to find out how different disciplines view academic writing. The impulse for conducting these interviews was twofold.

The first was to provide tutor training during High Covid. Most videos were taped in the Summer of 2020 and sent to our newly hired tutors to help them prepare for their future work. The videos were so popular with tutors that we asked participating faculty if we could share them more broadly. Those who agreed are featured here.

The second reason for conducting these interviews was that students sometimes express frustration that different faculty members have different expectations of student writing. But as English professor Alison Case says, “part of becoming a good writer is learning to address your writing to the expectations of particular audiences, so listen, and adjust accordingly.” We hope these videos help you do that.
