What to Expect From a Tutoring Session

The tutors want you to succeed! The Peer Academic Support Network hires Williams students who are enthusiastic about their subjects and are eager to help other students.

The tutors do not have answer keys. Tutors are there to help you work through issues you’re experiencing with the course material, but they cannot give answers or guarantee results. Your participation is vital and you are responsible for your learning.

  • Tutors in the Math and Science Resource Center (MSRC) and the Economics Resource Center (ERC) will work with you and can even match you up with other students working on the same problems in the same course. The tutor-facilitators in the centers are there to guide students working in groups by addressing problems and questions as they arise. (NOTE: the MSRC tutors do not provide assistance with labs.)
  • An appointment with an individual tutor offers a 30 minute session of one-on-one help with your work. The tutors welcome drop-ins during their scheduled hours but priority will be given to students who have made appointments ahead of time.

Your session will be more useful if you are prepared. Check out “Getting Ready For A Tutoring Session” to make sure you’re getting the most out of your time with a tutor.
