How do I use content tutoring?

How can I meet with a content tutor?

There are two main ways to engage with tutors—through individual tutoring or in one of the Resource Centers (Math & Science or Economics).

Individual Tutoring Resource Centers
Work one-on-one with a tutor Tutors are available to answer questions, multiple students might be present
Primarily appointment-based Drop-in only

What do I need to know before attending a session?

The content tutors are excited to work with you, but before making an appointment or dropping into a Resource Center, take a few minutes to get prepared. Here are some expectations that we have of students using our services:

Tutees are expected to be active participants in the tutoring session. The tutor will ask questions and initiate discussion during sessions.

  • Tutors are present to help you understand course content and work through assignments. They will not complete, verify, directly edit, or fix your work. Tutors do not have answer keys for your assignments.
  • Students should arrive prepared for individual tutoring appointments having attempted the work already. They should develop questions to cover in the session before arriving.
  • Tutors and tutees are expected to be on time for appointments.
  • Tutees should provide feedback to their tutors when something works well. Tutors may not always realize when a strategy or tool is working.
  • Students who have made an appointment will be helped in priority over students that drop in for tutoring.
  • Individual tutoring is not a replacement for attending class. Students should not expect tutors to teach them material they missed.
  • Students should not book appointments that they do not expect they will keep. Please be sure to cancel appointments through Accudemia if you know you will not be able to make a tutoring appointment.
  • Students must treat tutors with respect and courtesy.
  • Tutors are permitted to end sessions if these expectations are not being met.
  • Students should contact Nick Hanford ([email protected]) if tutoring sessions are not meeting their expectations.
