Pre-Registration, Course Registration, and Major Declaration

GENERAL INFORMATION

Students should first review the college general guidelines and policies for pre-registration and registration.

Browse the Course Catalog. If you have any questions about a course offered by the department faculty, please contact the course instructor. If you have any questions about the pre-registration, registration, or the major declaration process, please contact any regular DALLC Faculty.

LANGUAGE PLACEMENT

Students who have studied or otherwise developed some familiarity with Chinese or Japanese language before coming to Williams and who wish to continue their studies of these languages at the college should complete a placement evaluation before they pre-register or register for a language course.

Students who wish to complete the online Chinese placement evaluation should first read the FAQ. Students who wish to complete the Japanese placement evaluation should contact the Japanese faculty.

MAJOR DECLARATION

If you are declaring a major in the Department of Asian Languages, Literatures, and Cultures (DALLC), please do the following:

1. If you haven’t already done so, please sign up for the “DALLC Majors and Faculty” GLOW course so that you will be in the communication loop of the department. Go to the front page of that GLOW course, and you will find the link to a google sheet where you can sign up for an appointment to see a DALLC faculty advisor during the pre-registration period.

2. At the advising meeting, your DALLC faculty advisor will walk you through a questionnaire to discuss your academic plan in the department.

3. After you have met with a DALLC faculty, remember to submit the Registrar’s Office’s online Major Declaration Form to complete the major declaration process.
