Williams Summer Institute for Entrepreneurship

The Williams Summer Institute for Entrepreneurship aims to support Williams students by giving them a robust foundation and support system to pursue entrepreneurship over the summer. The program helped by giving my team access to invaluable expertise and advice through weekly meetings, as well as through regular events with successful alumni founders. We’ve been working with WSIE Director Tonio Palmer since we first started TokenTag around the beginning of the year. Tonio gave us the confidence and know-how needed to take an idea and build out our vision. We can’t put into words how valuable Tonio’s insight was in shaping our personal and entrepreneurial development.

Our mission at TokenTag is to change the way communities in Web3 communicate and connect. Communication and engagement in Web3 are difficult, since communities are spread across several platforms like Discord, Twitter and Telegram, and their sheer size prevents members from having their voices heard or staying in the loop. Our platform brings content from these different community channels into a single social feed so members are empowered to participate and community managers have the data and tools they need to identify and automatically incentivize contribution.

Over the summer, we were able to cover a tremendous amount of ground in building the company. One important thing to highlight is product development—we’re really excited to be nearing the first beta release of TokenTag. Our beta customer cohort consists of 40 NFT communities with more than 400k total members. In addition, we have a group of more than 200 community leaders who are enthusiastic about what we’re building and can’t wait to use it. We were also very happy to have been able to raise funds over the summer from a fantastic group of investors who have been absolutely crucial to supporting our growth.

There’s still so much more to be done in order to reach our goals, as we’re in the early days of the company’s journey. The fall is going to be a really defining and exciting time for the team; we plan to dedicate our time to solidifying and growing the traction we’ve achieved thus far and are likely going to be raising a formal seed round near the end of the year. With that in mind, I had to put academics on pause by taking personal leave, as well as give up playing football to be able to fully dedicate my time to our team. This was a very hard decision, but I’ve thankfully had lots of support from family, friends and the WSIE program.

Overall, my experience this summer helping build TokenTag as a cofounder as well as being a part of the WSIE program has undoubtedly been transformative. I can’t thank Tonio and Adriana enough for their help in this. I’d also like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Case for their support. I couldn’t be prouder of our team for putting in the long hours and sacrifices to really make this happen—and I’m really grateful I’ve been able to be a part of this.
