As summer marches on, we are so excited to bring you another look into student research at Williams. Jazmin ‘27 shares a little bit about what she is up to this summer:

My name is Jazmin Morenzi. I am a rising sophomore doing research this summer in the Geoscience department with Professor Chris Halsted. I started looking for research opportunities by emailing around in the department. Eventually, I met with Professor Halsted and after some discussion, he decided to take me aboard! My research delves into paleoclimate and the long-term history of the Greenland Ice Sheet through cosmogenic nuclide dating. This summer, I took my sample sediment cores to the University of Vermont to chemically isolate the isotope beryllium-10, a common climate proxy for paleoclimate. By tracking paleoclimates and the behavior of the Greenland Ice Sheet during periods of higher CO2 levels and warmer temperatures, we can measure the sensitivity of the ice sheet and determine the potential effects of melting. While this project will not be finished in one summer, research like this will, one day, affect climate policy and better prepare us for what climate change will bring.

Calling rising high school seniors! The application deadline for Windows on Williams (WOW) is just under a month away. During WOW, our three-day fully funded fly-program, students will stay in dorms with current students, attend classes, meet Williams faculty, and attend special sessions about admission and financial aid. This year’s WOW will be held on campus from October 6-8. Preference is given to high-achieving students who couldn’t otherwise afford to visit campus.

🔗 Check out the link in our bio to apply and learn more about WOW. Be sure to email wow@williams.edu with any questions. We cannot wait to read your application!
