About the Shepherd's Well Meterological Tower
In early November 2004, Williams put up a 50 meter (165 foot) measurement tower in Hopkins Memorial forest
near the crest of the Taconic Ridge in Massachusetts. The tower supports anemometers at 50, 40, and 30 meters,
wind vanes at 50 and 40 meters, and a thermometer.
The data from the instruments are stored in a data logger, which then uses a cell phone to call in to the college and report the data. The cell phone runs off of batteries that are charged by small solar panels.
