Aluminum
1. Aluminum cans, glass, and plastic are all mixed together in dorms and other campus buildings. The co-mingled recycling is picked up by the two Williams Campus recyclers on their normal route and stored at the Agway center in roll-off boxes.
2. When the boxes are full, the recycleables are picked up by a contracted waste hauler and delivered to the North Adams Transfer Station in North Adams, Massachusetts.
3. From there, they are hauled to the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency in Kingston, New York. There, the recycleables are separated.
4. Aluminum cans go to Kingston Recycling, also in Kingston, New York and are turned in to new aluminum cans.
Williams recycles approximately 27 tons of co-mingled glass, plastic and aluminum each year.
