Williams is participating in RecycleMania, a friendly competition among colleges and universities to see who can reduce, reuse and recycle the most. During the ten week competition, each participating school will measure its recycleables and trash, and compete to see who can collect:

• the largest amount of recyclables per capita,
• the largest amount of total recyclables,
• the least amount of trash per capita,
• or have the highest recycling rate.

The competition stars on January 18, and will run through March 28.

Williams College Facilities will measure its recycleables and trash every week. Check back to see how Williams is doing.

• Beware of contamination! When normal trash ends up in a container full of recycleables, or if the wrong kind of recycleables are mixed, the whole batch may need to be thrown away rather than recycled. This is especially a problem with paper; make sure that you separate paper according to the recycling guidelines.


• Talk to your custodian if you have any questions about recycling in your dorm room.
