Carbon Dioxide Emissions Sources and History

Emissions Sources
Over 60% of the emissions in 2007 are produced by fuel oil and natural gas burned in the central heating plant and in other buildings around campus. Electricity accounts for nearly a third of the emissions. Faculty-staff commuting emissions are estimated based on where faculty and staff members reside. Our current emissions calculations do not yet include emissions generated by student driving. The percentage of emissions from electricity is lower in 2007 than in previous years largely due to Williams' purchase of electricity primarily generated through large scale hydro plants. See the report on greenhouse gas emissions from fiscal year 2007 for more details on the electricity purchase. See how the fuels Williams has used have changed over time, and how that has affected emissions.
