ABC News Special Events

ABC News Special Events is a branch of ABC that plans television news shows for important events that will inevitably occur but have not yet happened, such as the deaths of famous men and women, election results coverage, future natural disasters, or major terrorist attacks. In this sense, the bureau's work encapsulates in an exemplary way the peculiar kind of rationality that marks all modern societies.

Students placed at ABC News Special Events have the opportunity to work closely with professionals who brainstorm about what events the future will bring and then amass the visual resources to report those events in full when they become “breaking news.” Students also do research that will aid program producers, including screening and editing of video footage.
