Shawn J. Rosenheim: Biosphere 2 Documentary
Rosenheim, Associate Professor of English, is making a documentary about Biosphere 2, the glass habitat located near Tucson, Arizona. His film traces the project from its utopian beginning through its failed attempt to create a closed, self-sustaining environment, to its current life as a facility for research into global warming. With its deep ambivalence about technology and culture, Biosphere 2 represents a quintessentially American attempt to reconcile the machine in the garden, a technological Eden that reflects back contemporary America in the convex mirror of its design.
