^The Office for Community Engagement is rooted in the belief that personal growth and social justice come from direct action. We trust that gaining a deeper understanding of the community is integral to the educational mission of Williams College and are dedicated to building sustainable community partnerships for social justice. The Office of Community Engagement strives to engage our community in a way that teaches us to address underlying causes of inequity and reconnects us to ourselves, our convictions, and each other. To that end, the Office of Community Engagement cultivates partnerships with governmental and non-profit organizations in the Berkshires and supports service, community-centric leadership, and civic engagement in the Williams College community. We offer opportunities to participate in volunteer work, provide work-study placements in the community, and act as a primary resource for opportunities in service and social justice.

^The Lehman Council for Community Engagement is a student run group that serves as an umbrella organization under which all volunteer and service oriented groups on campus operate. In addition to sponsoring community service events throughout the year, the Lehman Council works to aid various groups on campus by encouraging students to volunteer and by providing logistical support. New Board members are elected yearly. Once elected, students remain members of the Board for their entire time at Williams. We believe in breaking down the barriers between campus and surrounding communities in the Berkshires to allow students and community members to learn from each other through equal partnerships, formed in solidarity toward a vision of social justice. Through this interaction with and integration into the Northern Berkshire Community, we hope to prepare students for a lifetime of involved citizenship, awareness and social responsibility, as they have the potential to enact great change in our local and global community.
