I studied on a fellowship for two years at the University of Cambridge and received an M. Phil. in History and Philosophy of Science. I highly recommend the HPS program at Cambridge (it can't be beat for any Victorian science), though any prospective PhD.s should be sure you know what you're getting into with the British system. The department is small, friendly, and of very high caliber.

After receiving my degree, I worked as a science writing intern at two magazines. I then freelanced as I looked for a more permanent job. After spending a year as a research associate to a business school professor (whose professional interests, if not his actual work, were related to sociology of science), I accepted a position as an analyst in the environmental economics group of an economic consulting firm. I am intermittently tempted to return to school to pursue a PhD in the history and/or philosophy of science, but friends tell me the job market in the field isn't especially bright right now, even though every other job market seems to be.
