COST

Prior to August 1, 2005, the fee for both loops is $40 ($60 for tandems).  Entries after this date will be $50 ($70 for tandems).  Participants may register at www.active.com or www.bikereg.com, or through a printable version of the registration form.  Entry fees are non-refundable.  All participants registered prior to August 1 will receive a commemorative t-shirt.  All riders will receive a water bottle along with an assortment of goodies. In addition, all participants are invited to the post-ride buffet once their workout is through! 

All riders are expected to follow local traffic rules.  In addition, all participants must sign USCF waivers prior to participating in the event, and must be current USCF members.  One-day USCF event membership may be purchased for $5 at registration.

A BIKE TOUR Presented by

This is the second annual Hoosic River Ride.  We’re offering two scenic loops of 31 or 64 miles (a metric century) that will traverse the highways and byways of three states (MA, VT and NY).  Both will start with a challenging four-mile hill climb over the Taconic Crest, before a fun descent into the farmlands of the river valley.  Rolling terrain follows, with a few more hills and a covered bridge for those who choose the metric century.  Three to five aid stations (depending on route), sagwagons to provide technical support. Post ride picnic will include a range of chilis (vegetarian too), baked potatoes and dessert. Additional guests may attend the picnic for $5. All proceeds, after costs (and this is an all volunteer run event so these are minimal), to benefit the Hoosic River Watershed Association's programs in education, research and advocacy. And while you're planning for your fun, why don't you bring the family! There are world famous art museums, summer theater, and trails to hike for both the novice hiker and the more serious adventurer with scenic vistas and waterfalls to be found. Ride packets will include discounts to area attractions that will be fun for young and old!

Participants may choose from a 31 mile loop or a metric century (64 miles) loop.  See course maps and cue sheets below for specific route information. 

THE CAUSE

The inaugural Hoosic River Ride seeks to raise awareness of the Hoosic River and its environs, while raising money for the education and research programs of the Hoosic River Watershed Association, a 501.3c nonprofit headquartered in Williamstown, MA.  Some of our programming includes: Arts and science education to elementary schools in MA and VT; independent and certified water quality monitoring along the Hoosic and its tributaries in all three states; a writing competition and workshops for children and adults; and continued advocacy for cleaner water for wildlife and future generations.
