Tracks

In addition to taking International Studies 101, students must take 5 courses in a track. Tracks are of two kinds: Area Tracks and Thematic Tracks. Courses in the track:

- Will be administered by faculty teaching in that track in consultation with the steering committee.

- May set an additional requirement of a level of language competency.

- May also require one of the elective courses to be comparative.

Currently the following rules have been established by individual tracks: East Asian Studies concentrators require demonstration of a first year proficiency in an Asian language, Chinese, Japanese or Korean. For Asian Studies majors only three courses can count toward both the major and the International Studies concentration.

Latin American Studies, MIddle Eastern Studies, and Russian/Eurasian Studies require demonstration of a first year proficiency in a language appropriate to the area.
