Some drugs, and even some endogenously produced proteins, such as DBI, can impair the binding of GABA by changing the receptor's conformation and causing GABA to bind less tightly. Now the protein DBI, coming in from the right, binds to the receptor. Fewer chloride ions will now enter the cell.
