The steps in front of Chapin Hall -- often referred to as "Chapin Beach" -- are a favorite gathering spot to soak up warmth from the sun.

Hopkins Observatory, completed in 1838, is the oldest in the country still in operation. It has been moved twice to make way for various building projects.

Approximately 40 percent of all Williams students participate in 31 varsity intercollegiate teams (16 men's and 15 women's), 16 JV teams (8 men's and 8 women's), 8 club sport teams, and 11 intramural sports.

'Ironic' columns decorate Lawrence Hall, home of the art department. Williams offers undergraduate courses of study in art history and studio art, as well as a master's program in art history.
