Associate Director, Center for Urban Research at the City University of New York. Professor of Sociology at Williams College 1987-1994. Author of Caribbean New York: Black Immigrants and the Politics of Race (1992); Editor of Metropolis: Center and Symbol of Our Time (1995); The Handbook of International Migration: the American Experience (1999); and Becoming New Yorkers: Ethnographies of the New Second Generation (2004).
