The Daily Show

There is no comedy major at Williams and the closest thing I’ve found to it is theatre, and the majority of my classes have been in that department. I am most interested in writing, directing, and improv and there is probably no funnier or better-written comedy show on television then The Daily Show. I have directed a full-length play, created a sketch comedy group, and done improv since I was a freshman in high school. Each venture has helped me develop as a comedian and interning for The Daily Show can only help me advance more. A lot of the show’s writers and cast are or once were improvisers and the interviews they do are almost completely improvised. Seeing them in action, will be a real pleasure for me as well as some on the job training. While I will not be writing or performing for the show, I will experience the creative process from outside my dorm room, and be surrounded by people tasked with making the often sad and depressing realities of the world funny. Besides from being a comedy show, The Daily Show is, in my opinion, the best news show on television. I am not a political science major, but I enjoy talking about politics as much as they do, and working for a comedy news show during an election year is going to be amazing. Hopefully being able to watch writers write and see a television show created each day will make me a better writer and give me a greater understanding of what is expected of someone in the business of laughter.
