The New York City Department of Public Health & Mental Hygiene is the premier municipal public health agency in the world. It is charged with monitoring everything affecting the public health of citizens of the city, from rats, bed bugs, and cockroaches, to AIDS/HIV infections, asthma, and salmonellosis, to major health hazards such as lead poisoning and insecticides.
