WILLIAMS COLLEGE OFFICE OF CAREER COUNSELING (OCC) enjoys working with representatives from a wide variety of organizations — education, non-profit, and business — who recruit on campus for both full-time job and internship opportunities. This section outlines on-campus recruiting resources.
The OCC uses the Route 2 System (a recruiting database powered by Symplicity) to manage our recruiting program. By registering or logging into the Route 2 System, you are able to post jobs and internships, request information sessions, and manage your on-campus recruiting activities. To do so, please visit the recruiter’s section of our website (www.williams.edu/go/careers/recruiters) and select, “Sign into the Route 2 System.” If you need assistance with this process, simply call our office at 413-597-3019.
The OCC also offers you a choice of posting your internships for Williams students only (in the Route 2 System) or in the UCAN internship database, a consortium of 20 colleges and universities, including Harvard, Princeton, Yale, the University of Chicago, and other tier-one colleges and universities around the country. To post your internship with UCAN, simply send your posting to occ@williams.edu.
Posting a job description, which includes position title, responsibilities, location, experience required and a recruiting contact is an essential step in attracting student interest. All positions are advertised to students in our online database for 30 days, unless otherwise specified. You will have the choice of receiving resumes as they are submitted or in a batch sent to you at the end of the submission period.
The OCC urges you to provide students with an opportunity to learn more about your organization and to meet your employees by hosting an information session. You can make a powerful impression by exposing students to your organization through senior executives or alumni. The best times to hold information sessions are Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings. These sessions typically run for 45 minutes. Please request your information session on Route 2 or contact our Assistant Director to schedule your visit. We will be happy to reserve a room for you on campus.
If you choose to hold your information session off campus, please let us know as soon as possible of the date and location for your session so that we may avoid scheduling conflicts and answer student questions regarding your event.
On-campus interviewing begins in October and continues through November. The winter/spring schedule is January through May. Our Assistant Director of Recruiting will be working with you to find a time that works best for your organization.
The OCC uses a web-based on-campus recruiting system to schedule interviews and manage the transmission of resumes and cover letters. When you schedule your visit, you may choose to have an open or a pre-select schedule for your interviews. An open schedule allows students to sign up on a first-come, first-served basis. With a pre-select schedule you may choose specific candidates and invite them to interview. You will be given access to the online database so that you can manage your candidate selection if you wish to do so.
Interviews are typically scheduled in half-hour intervals beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until 4:30 p.m., with an hour break for lunch. If you need to adjust your schedule, or need space in our office past 5 p.m., please contact us so that special arrangements can be made. Once a schedule has been set, we ask that you adhere to it. Students to be interviewed will be waiting in a designated area outside the interview suite. Please call each interviewee at his/her scheduled time.
You may view your interview schedule online at any time via our online scheduling system. A final copy of your schedule and candidate’s resumes will be printed and available for you either the evening before (if you have an information session scheduled) or the morning of your visit.
If you must cancel an interview schedule after students have signed up, please notify them of your cancellation directly by phone, by writing or by email. Also, contact the Office of Career Counseling to let us know of the change.
Recruiters typically conduct second-round interviews at their organization’s office. However, we would be pleased to arrange for secondround interviews at Williams if space is available.
OCC publicizes all of its events, including visits by recruiters, via our job database, website calendar, campus bulletin boards, and newsletters.
Food and beverages are allowed in many meeting spaces on campus. However, a few of the larger auditoriums that are often used for information sessions do not. Please check with the OCC Assistant Director of Recruiting to determine whether or not catering is allowed in your assigned room. In the supplemental information section of this guide, you will find a list of caterers in the area. We ask that you contact them directly to place all catering orders.
A variety of media equipment is available through OCC, including screens, a projector, VCR/DVD player, television, and videoconference technology. We ask that you let us know your media needs when you schedule your visit. A staff member will be available to assist you with media set-up.
