Class of 1955 Peace Corps Fund

The 1955 Peace Corps Fund was established by a member of the Class of 1955 in December of 2006 as an extension of that class’s 50th Reunion gift purpose, “To bring Williams to the world and the world to Williams.” This individual feels that Williams alumni who volunteer for service in the Peace Corps are “bringing Williams to the world.” The purpose of the fund is to encourage Peace Corps service by paying down the student loan debt held by those alums currently serving and those who serve in the future, as long as money remains in the fund, meaning that those in the classes of 2004 forward are eligible.

Williams graduates who have volunteered for service in the Peace Corps should contact the Director of Career Counseling. The Director of Career Counseling will notify each volunteer about the 1955 Peace Corps Fund and the possibility of loan forgiveness and repayment. It will be up to each volunteer to contact the Bursar’s Office for an assessment of his or her loan debt.

For more information about joining the Peace Corps, visit their website (www.peacecorps.gov), and also look for information sessions on campus that occur several times each year.
