Fresher's Fair
Oxford University has more than 300 student organizations, all of which are open to Williams students. The Oxford University Student Union (OUSU) Freshers' Fair is one of the biggest university events of the year and an excellent way to find an activity that interests you. Similar to Williams' Purple Key Fair (but on a much larger scale), it provides a unique opportunity for freshers (freshmen, first years, frosh) to sample the wide range of clubs, societies and voluntary groups Oxford has to offer. Williams students are strongly encouraged to attend. The fair takes place on Thursday and Friday of Noughth (0th) week, Michaelmas Term every year. You might want to view the OUSU club list as well. At Oxford, unlike Williams, student clubs and organizations are not funded entirely by the University and so most will charge students a small membership fee of a few pounds.
Sports at Oxford
Most Oxford sports take place at the College level. Williams students are encouraged to participate in any of Exeter College's sport teams. Williams students have participated in Exeter's rowing, soccer and rugby teams in past years. To participate simply sign your name on the sheets posted in the porter's lodge during 0th week. College sports tend to take a laid-back attitude; however, if you are looking for a more serious atmosphere you can inquire about the University's blues teams (varsity teams).
The Oxford Union
The Oxford Union is the world's foremost debating society, with a reputation for bringing guests and speakers to Oxford. The Union provides numerous facilities. It has a restaurant, two bars, full-size snooker tables, and the largest lending library for students in Oxford.
