Mission Statement
We
believe it is important for our departmental mission
statement to reflect the College’s own mission
statement.
“Williams seeks to provide the finest possible liberal
arts education by nurturing in students the academic and
civic virtues, and their related traits of character.
…Civic virtues include commitment to engage both the
broad public realm and community life, and the skills to
do so effectively. …We place great emphasis on the
learning that takes place in the creation of a
functioning community: life in the residence halls,
…leadership in campus governance, exploration of
personal identity…”
(from the “Mission And Purposes” statement of Williams
College, adopted April 14, 2007)
The Office of Campus Life works to support students'
investment in the Williams community. We want students
to care for the individuals who comprise the community,
to respect each other’s qualities that make our
community diverse and reflective of the world, to take
responsibility for the physical spaces that have been
entrusted to their use, to explore and accept the
leadership opportunities that the College has to offer
them, and, ultimately, to understand how these
experiences and opportunities translate to their lives
beyond Williams.
We pursue these goals by working collaboratively with
students as they create programs and activities that
enhance life outside of the classroom, by providing
services that facilitate responsible usage of campus
space and resources, and by creating opportunities for
students to experience and learn about leadership and
identity.
