Baxter Fellows
Baxter Fellows and Neighborhood
Leaders 2009-2010
Baxter
Fellows are leaders living within student residences
while at the same time collaborating with the
Neighborhood Governance Boards to foster a larger sense
of community within the Neighborhoods. This is
accomplished through local house responsibilities, such
as snacks and serving as a communication point for
residents, as well as through collaborating with one
another on neighborhood-wide activities that address
several community-development areas.
The Baxter Fellows are a creative, enthusiastic, and
motivated group of student leaders who are excited about
being involved in their neighborhood community on many
levels—from building smaller communities in their
houses, to planning large-scale events for the
neighborhood. They are trained in team-building and
event planning, and are open and available to talk to
their residents about community and diversity issues,
problem solving, and time management.
The
program is named in honor of James Phinney Baxter III
'14, who during his tenure as President of Williams
College (1937-1961) helped the College to make
significant improvements to life on campus.
