Study language, texts and cultures that continue to shape our world
Curiosity, wonder, a thirst for understanding, a hunger for critical and creative thought: these are both the impetus for studying classical antiquity and the gifts that it has offered students for millennia. As you delve into the languages, literatures, history, archaeology, religion, philosophy and art that flourished in ancient Greece and Rome, you will encounter cultures and ways of thinking that are both deeply different from our own, and also strikingly familiar.
The history of the book lets us leap across centuries
Library Special Collections holds manuscripts and early printed editions of many Greek and Latin classics, including Homer, Aristophanes, Plato, Aristotle, Virgil, Cicero, Catullus, and Caesar, as well as ancient Greek fragments on papyri from Egypt.
