What to Bring
This is not intended to be a complete list, but is hoped to be a guide when packing for your year at the CDE.
Clothing
-
Williamstown has four distinct seasons. You will need - warm coat, sweaters, hat, gloves, warm water-resistant shoes. Check out the local weather. The CDE has a limited supply of winter clothing available to be borrowed for the year. A local second-hand clothing store in town also has warm clothing at a very reasonable cost. Daily dress at the CDE is casual; jeans are acceptable. Business attire is required for meetings in New York and Washington, DC, and for special occasions. If you have a national dress, it is worth packing if space allows.
-
If possible, get advice from former CDE students about what to bring.
Items from Home
-
Pack some photos of your family and the area around your community as well as some trinkets to share with fellows and host family members.
-
Many countries' drivers licenses are recognized in Massachusetts. However, an International Driving Permit is very useful, for it provides a translation of relevant information on a foreign license. There may be times when you want to rent a car for an excursion away from Williamstown.
