CDE CDE Program Requirements

The CDE program is a residential program. All students participate fully in the CDE partial board plan. There are no exceptions.

Families may not live in the CDE building. The CDE student must arrange for suitable non-college housing prior to the arrival of family members.
Who is Eligible and When

No visa application forms will be issued for families until the second semester unless the financial sponsor guarantees full financial support for family as outlined below under Financial Requirements.

A student must be in good academic standing.

After first semester, written approval from the financial sponsor and from the permanent employer endorsing decision to have family accompany in Williamstown is required (two approvals if different entities).

No visa applications for minor children will be issued unless a parent, who is not in the CDE program, accompanies the children.

Families that are visiting the U.S. for 90 days or less must apply for a Visitor's Visa. A family coming to the U.S. on a J-2 visa must reside in the Williamstown area on a full-time basis.
Financial Requirements

Bank statements from the most recent three months showing available funds (denominated in U.S. dollars) in a U.S. bank account (or in a similar non-U.S. account not subject to potential currency restrictions) held by the student - a minimum of $860 per month for a spouse and $445 for each additional dependent after health insurance costs and round-trip transportation costs (estimated transportation costs: Latin America-$1000 per person; NIS, Africa, and Asia $2000 per person) OR a signed letter from a financial guarantor (financial sponsor or employer) covering those minimum amounts. If an individual guarantor, the signed letter must be accompanied by three months of supporting bank documents. These amounts are in addition to the total resources required for a fellow for US visa certification.
