Ephs 2nd at NCAAs; Cretti takes 5K/10K Double Win
May 27, 2006
LISLE,IL- After three days of top performances from the 12 female athletes representing Williams at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships, the Ephs tallied 42 points, just behind Wisconsin's Oshkosh's winning 52 points.

Leading the Ephs was co-captain Caroline Cretti '06, who scored an incredible 20 points for the team with her victories in both Thursday's 10,000 meter run and Saturday's 5000 meter contest.

"It feels good," said Cretti. "This was one of the hardest races I have won, so I am very happy with my performance." Cretti, who also won the Division III Indoor 5000 this year, took the Outdoor title in 17:12, while teammate Liz Gleason '08 raced to eighth place in a time of 17:39, earning her third All-American certificate. Mallory Harlin '08 finished 17th in the race in 18:17.20.

Saturday's other highlights included Caroline Doctor '07 placing fifth in the triple jump (38'8.25") and co-captain Katie Fulton '06 taking fourth in the 200 meter dash while breaking her own school record in the event with a time of 24.12.

The 4x400 relay team of Maddie Outman '08, Veronica Ivey '08, Katie Howard '07, and Carrie Plitt '08 took eighth place (3:53.29) in the final event of the day to edge out SUNY Oneonta and City College of NY for second place overall at the meet.

Other big contributors at the meet included Kristin Moss '06, who greatly exceeded her 17th place ranking to take second in the high jump on Friday (5'7") while tying the school record for the event. Moss also competed in the long and triple jump events but just missed qualifying for the finals in both. Doctor was also sixth in the long jump on Friday (18'6.5").

Rounding out the Ephs' nationals group were: Alex Phillips '07 who competed in the shot put on Saturday, Lissy Robie '08 who ran 4:41 in Thursday's 1500 preliminary, and Fulton's participation in the 100 meter preliminary on Friday.

"I'm just extremely proud of our kids, they represented Williams very well," Ephs head coach Ralph White said. "Performance-wise, if you compare where we were ranked coming into this meet to how we performed, we probably did better than any other team here. It was a great weekend for us."
