| NEW YORK, NY – Williams senior MF/F Khari Stephenson (Kingston, Jamaica) is one of 54 college players and one of only two Div. III players invited to participate in the 2004 adidas MLS Combine in Carson, CA, January 11-13. Stephenson led the Ephs in scoring with 15 goals and four assists this fall and he tallied 40 goals and assisted on 18 others for a career total of 98 points. The players invited to the MLS Combine are considered to be the top college prospects available for the 2004 MLS SuperDraft that will be held on January 15th in the Charlotte Convention Center from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM EST. While in Carson the players will be coached by MLS coaches and evaluated by MLS general managers and advisers in what is in effect a tryout situation and a final opportunity to impress before the upcoming MLS SuperDraft. Of the first 30 selections at last year's MLS SuperDraft, only five were not in attendance at the 2003 adidas MLS Player Combine. For the second consecutive year the MLS SuperDraft will be held in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Convention, one of the largest annual soccer gatherings in the United States.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Khari to show what he can do against all of the other players hoping to play in the MLS," said Eph head coach Mike Russo. "I think Khari has unlimited potential because he has developed great versatility and can play either in the midfield or up front. Physically he's so impressive because he is big and fast. He's probably the most complete player we've had here. His skills are outstanding and he can control the ball with either foot in a tight area. Most players are not technically even, but Khari is. His first touch is outstanding and over his four years at Williams he has improved greatly on defense." This marks the third consecutive year that an Eph has been selected for the national all-star competition preceding the MLS draft. Two years ago the event was known as the Umbro Senior Select All-Star Classic and forward Teddy Giannacopoulos represented the Ephs and last year Alex Blake played at the first MLS Combine before the SuperDraft. Overall Eph head coach Mike Russo has had six players compete in this prestigious annual event, which speaks volumes about the quality of Russo's teams at Williams. The 2004 adidas MLS Player Combine will take place at The Home Depot Center in Carson, CA where doubleheaders will be held on the mornings of January 11, 12 and 13 at 9:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. local time. The 54 college invitees (49 from Division I, two from Division II, two from Division III and one from the NAIA), who will later be joined by select Project-40 players, have been divided into four squads for the three-day, round-robin tournament. As the title sponsor of the 2004 adidas Player Combine, adidas will outfit all four teams. Following is the schedule of matches to be played at The Home Depot Center (all matches are open to the public): Stephenson and Josh Smith (Trinity, TX) are the only Div. III players at the MLS Combine and they will be members of the adidas Supernova team. Stephenson is slated to see time as a midfielder, but he may also see time at forward. The field of players was determined by a select panel of Division I college coaches in conjunction with MLS coaches and the consultation of select Division II, Division III and NAIA coaches. The names of the latest Project-40 signings, who are also expected to be part of the event, will be announced at a later date. Among the collegiate players scheduled to participate are five players from defending NCAA Champion UCLA, the No. 1 seed in the 2003 NCAA College Cup tournament, which has reached the quarterfinal stage. Other NCAA College Cup Quarterfinalists will also be well represented with four players from the University of Maryland and three from St. Louis University. The 2003 NCAA College Cup Semifinals and Finals will be televised on ESPN2 during the weekend of Dec. 12-14 at Crew Stadium in Columbus, OH.. Sunday, Jan. 11
