Giardino Segreto

Le pareti a est e a nord erano affrescate con paesaggi in prospettiva, di cui oggi sopravvivono solo poche incisioni sull'intonaco, relative alla finta architecture e a qualche figura. Lo spettatore, per quanto protetto dalle mura, aveva quindi la sensazione di trovarso in uno spazio illimtato. La porta della grotta, sulla parete nord, venne aperta attorno al 1595. Il fregio che si estende dalla parete sud, sovrastante la loggia, alle pareti ovest e nord, e ornato da nicchie con favole di Esopo, alternamente rilevate a stucco e dipinte, (queste ultime in gran parte scomparse). Al centro della parete sud e inserito il monumento funebre di un cagnolino, favorito del duca. Alla base delle nicchie sono riprodotte numerose imprese dei Gonzaga.


Secret Garden

The east and north walls were frescoed with landscapes, of which only a few traces of architectural scenes and figures remain. Because of the painted landscape one felt, even though one was surrounded by walls, that one could look out into limitless space. The grotto door on the north wall was made around 1595. The frieze that runs from the south wall, above the loggia, around the west and north walls, is decorated with niches containing scenes from Aesop's Fables, either painted or in stucco. The south wall displays a funeral monument to Federico's favorite dog. Below the niches are numerous Gonzaga devices.
