Students Learning from Students - Residential Life
Student life at Williams is more lively and varied than ever. But because
students tend to maintain friendships with those of similar ages and
interests, greater personal growth - and, particularly, better understanding
of those from different backgrounds - may not readily occur. The aim of the
new residential initiatives is to create more opportunities for students to
learn from each other. We are providing professional training for all
students who serve as dorm staff (junior advisors and house coordinators).
We have also hired several new community life coordinators who live in the
dormitories and work closely with students to plan more ambitious and
thoughtful dorm activities. To promote these and other opportunities for
students outside of class, the College has created a new position: Director
of Residential Life. And because comfortable, functional living space
supports productive student relationships, we've also been working to
improve the structure and amenities of student housing. Complete renovation
and reconfiguration of Mission Park and Prospect House will open up each
house and each floor in ways that will encourage more interaction among
student residents.
