Gauis Charles Bolin FellowshipsIn 1985 Williams College established the Gaius Charles Bolin Fellowships to underline the importance of diversity on college faculties by encouraging able minority students to complete the doctoral degree and to pursue careers in college teaching. Each year, at least two graduate students from underrepresented groups are awarded Bolin Fellowships. While in residence at Williams for the year, they devote the bulk of their time to the completion of their dissertation work. The Fellows are also affiliated with an appropriate department or program and are expected to teach one one-semester course, normally in the fall semester. Named in honor of the College's first black graduate, who was admitted to Williams in 1885, the Bolin Fellowships are awarded to graduate students from underrepresented groups who are working toward the Ph.D. in the humanities or the natural, social, or behavioral sciences. |
