Financial Aid Application Procedures

To be considered for financial aid at Williams College, you must submit the documents indicated below. For all documents listed, use the best figures available to you, and estimate if necessary to meet deadlines. Copies of 2007 income tax returns will be required before financial aid awards are finalized. It is important to estimate carefully. Awards will be revised if final figures differ substantially from estimates.

  • Register for the College Scholarship Service (CSS) Financial Aid PROFILE beginning December 1, 2007, and no later than January 15, 2008. You can register via the Internet at www.collegeboard.com or toll free at 1-800-778-6888. List Williams College — CSS code 3965 — as a recipient. Complete the PROFILE form (either the online version or the personalized form that is mailed to you) and submit it to CSS as soon as possible after January 1, 2008, and no later than February 1, 2008. Use estimated 2007 income figures to complete the PROFILE.
  • File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with the appropriate processor as soon as possible after January 1, and no later than February 1, 2008, listing Williams College — Title IV code 002229 — as a recipient. Make sure you fill out all sections of the FAFSA in order to be considered for institutional and state grants. Please check with your state scholarship agency to determine filing deadlines and if additional forms are required for state grants.
  • If either parent is self-employed or holds an interest in any business or farm, you must complete the CSS Business/Farm Supplement, which should be included with your PROFILE. If the business interests are corporations or partnerships, the most recent IRS forms (1065, 1120, 1120S, K-1) are also required. All of these forms must be submitted directly to Williams by February 1, 2008.
  • If your parents are separated or divorced, the parent with whom you reside completes the PROFILE and the FAFSA. Your noncustodial parent must submit directly to Williams the CSS Noncustodial Parent's Supplement, which should be included with your PROFILE by February 1, 2008.
  • Submit directly to Williams signed copies of all pages and schedules of the 2007 Federal Income Tax return and W-2 statements filed by both your parent(s) and yourself (if any) as soon as they are completed. (Please do not send copies of state income tax returns or copies of 2006 income tax returns.) Be sure your name is written on all documents.
