ECON 237 The Economics of Inequality and Poverty (Not offered 1997-98)
This course is designed to deal with issues of equity in economic distribution. Topics covered will include: i) ethical issues in deciding upon a "just" distribution of income; ii) statistical analysis of the existing distribution of income, with a primary focus on the United States; iii) theoretical models of and empirical evidence on the determinants of inequality including discrimination; iv) the poor and anti-poverty policies, and v) a discussion of a range of policies designed to redistribute income and wealth.
