AMS 211(F,S) Oceanographic Processes (Same as Geosciences 210)

An introduction to the physical, chemical, geological, and biological processes that control the major features of the world's ocean. Topics include ocean circulation, waves and tides, plate tectonics, shoreline processes, biological productivity, and food web structure. Lectures and laboratories, including coastal and near-shore field trips, two weeks on a sailing oceanographic research vessel, and a laboratory or field research project. This overview of the oceans is designed for both non-science majors and science majors who desire a general course on oceanography. Requirements: an hour test, a research project, and a final exam.
