As a continuation of French 101-102, this first-semester intermediate course is designed to help you improve your French, while at the same time learning more about French and Francophone cultures, politics, literature, and film. Through the active study and daily practice of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in French, you will: continue developing communication skills necessary to function in daily life; learn to express your opinions and ideas; improve your command of spoken and written French through a revision of important grammatical structures; strengthen your reading and writing skills in order to prepare you for further study of literary texts; and develop an increased vocabulary and cultural appreciation of French-speaking cultures around the world. Conducted in French. Format: class meets three hours a week with the professor, plus a fourth hour conference meeting with the French Teaching Assistants. Requirements: active class participation, workbook exercises and compositions, short papers, quizzes, midterm, and final examination. Prerequisites: French 101-102 or examination placement. NOTE: Students should seriously consider taking French 103 AND 104 if they intend to enroll in more advanced French courses at the level of French 105 or above, or if they anticipate studying in France or in a Francophone country during their junior year.
