PSYC 322(S) Concepts: Mind, Brain, and Culture

How does conceptual knowledge differ across cultural groups? How do the categories of experts differ from the categories of novices? Do children have the same kind of conceptual knowledge as adults? How are categories represented in the brain? In this course, we will explore various empirical findings from cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and anthropology that address these questions. In doing so, we will consider how our conceptual knowledge is a function of our mind, brain, and culture. Format: seminar. Requirements: short papers, class presentation, and research paper. Prerequisites: Psychology 221 or permission of the instructor. Enrollment limit: 19 (expected: 15). Priority given to psychology majors. Empirical Project
