ECON 366 Forecasting Economic Performance: The U.S. Regional and International Outlook (Not offered 2000-2001)

Over the course of the semester, we take a hands-on approach to predicting the movement of key economic variables in the global economy. First, we will explore the fundamentals of forecasting, while simulating best-case and worst-case scenarios of economic growth in the near term. Second, we will explore how the nine U.S. regions follow unique paths of growth, and are affected differently by external shocks-such as the Asian economic crisis. Third, we will turn our attentions abroad, to determine the paths of discovery for Asian economies, and alternative trajectories for various Latin-American economies. There will be a midterm, final exam, and economic policy paper. Prerequisite: Economics 252, 253, or 255. Enrollment limited to 25.
