Information Sharing Center
We believe that prospective students and their parents should have as much information as possible to inform their college choice. Often, they turn to a college guidebook as their primary source of information. There are many excellent college guidebooks in the marketplace. They can be valuable sources of handy information when it comes time to compare colleges.
However, the information they contain is usually public and can usually be found for free. Much of it can be found in our Common Data Set — a compendium of standardized institutional data commonly requested by college guide publications.
Occasionally, guidebook publishers ask colleges to provide information that goes beyond the data in the Common Data Set. Because we believe that prospective students should have more information not less, and because we recognize that guidebooks are an efficient way to deliver information to their hands, we will often comply with the guidebooks’ requests for supplemental information. However, we do not believe that a prospective student should have to buy a guidebook for what amount to public information. (See Statement on College Rankings.)
For that reason we have posted at left, and will continue to post, our raw submittals to publishers of college guides. Doing so is true to our educational mission and will allow any interested party to use the information therein for their own purposes.
