First In-Person Meeting of the Search Committee
January 23, 2009
To the Williams Community,
The 2009 Presidential Search Committee met in person for the first time yesterday here in Williamstown.
We benefited from hearing firsthand the insights of Presidents Emeritus John Chandler and Francis Oakley and spent most of the time setting out our process for the coming months. A sub-group is currently interviewing search firms. We will let you know which one we choose. We then will solicit input from the broad Williams community (faculty, staff, students, alumni, and parents) on the issues you see the College facing, the attributes you believe are most important in the next President, and any candidates you think we should consider. We will inform you when the mechanisms for that input (which will include face-to-face meetings, e-mail, and Web) are in place. We then will produce a document that describes the College (its governance, history, and present circumstances) and spells out the attributes we will seek most in candidates. After again soliciting nominations and applications, we will evaluate them and make our recommendation to the Board.
You can remind yourself of who is on the committee by visiting Presidential Search Committee.
We plan to report back to you at every milestone along the way.
Regards,
Greg Avis ’80
