Biology major Allison Graebner, Class of 2014, has always loved playing around with video cameras, shooting and editing short films just for fun. When she learned that she had been selected to be part of the first Video Intern Program, sponsored by Williams’ Office of Information Technology (OIT), she was thrilled.
The Video Intern Program (V.I.P.) is a nine-week summer course where Williams students work closely with OIT staff members to learn about video production while developing video projects for campus departments. After the program, some intern “alumni” continue to support the faculty during the regular academic year as student OIT employees. They also support administrative departments, participate in film festivals, and submit film projects as part of their academic work.
“V.I.P. is a great way to learn the details about shooting and editing video,” says Graebner, “and to put those skills to use in a professional setting.”
English major Peter T. De Riemer, a junior, adds that the program is very hands-on, “with a real opportunity to interact with serious clients, shape a creative voice with professional software, share a polished product with a wide audience, and have a lot of fun with talented co-workers.”
Junior Dhyan Adler-Belendez, an English and mathematics major, agrees. He says, “V.I.P. was a fantastic learning experience. From storyboarding to animation and professional film editing for college events like Williams Thinking, we learned something new every day.”
