Concept

• Convert the cloak room on the 2nd floor of the Log to a meeting/reading room for campus leaders: create a resource library with information on community development, conflict resolution, leadership. This room will be specifically targeted, but not limited, to students who will become the new house advisors and social chairs.
  
  
• Convert the 4 small rooms on the 2nd floor of the log to office space for those who are working most closely with students on issues of community, activities, etc.
  
  
• Create a name for these spaces -- hang sign or banner "Offices of Campus Community" -- or Office of Campus Life It would be great to incorporate someone from Health Services and Chaplain. This would require taking over Mullen space.
  
  
• Make this a friendly, welcoming area of campus -- Adirondack chairs on front porch, benches in front of the Log.

Benefits

• A proactive step. The Baxter model for student services would be implemented for the next generation of students, rather than having to wait for the renovation of Baxter.
  
  
• Creates a 'sense of place' -- an identifiable student services 'pod.'
  
  
• Better synergy and communication between and among student life offices.
  
  
• Increases foot traffic and activity on Spring St.
  
  
• An outward sign that the College is committed to student life program.
  
  
• Serves as the cornerstone of the CUL porposal.
  
  
• May create better synergy with MCC -- work on programs together.
  
  
• Greatly enhances the house president [house associate] role. They would have a 'home.'
  
  
• Gives administrators better access to students and vice-versa.
