David Sipress ’68, acclaimed cartoonist and illustrator

David Sipress attended the Master’s Program in Soviet Studies at Harvard for two years before deciding to pursue a career as a cartoonist. Since 1998, he has published more than 300 cartoons in The New Yorker. His cartoons have been a weekly feature in The Boston Phoenix for more than 30 years. The author of eight books of cartoons, he is also the writer, producer and host of Conversations with Cartoonists staged at Dixon Place Theater and the 92nd Street Y in New York City. Using slides of his favorite New Yorker cartoons by many different artists, David shows how drawing, writing and humor work together in this unique art form. He discusses his own work and creative process, as well as his 40-year career as a cartoonist. Finally, David will offer some insights into the process of selling cartoons to the The New Yorker.
