This job classification and pay rate schedule has been designed to reduce pay inequities between jobs that permit study time and those that do not and to encourage students to remain with the same office/department from one year to the next.
The classifications of student job grades are:
- Grade A Student has one specific responsibility; is not expected to perform other tasks and is permitted to study as long as responsibility is met. Generally, this level includes those who are able to study one half of the time or more.
- Grade B Student functions as a monitor/worker; is expected to perform additional duties as requested and is permitted to study when these responsibilities have been met.
- Grade C Student is fully occupied during work hours and is not permitted to study or do other non-job related activities.
- Grade D Supervisors – students whose primary responsibility is to oversee the scheduling and performance of other students. Must be upperclass.This position requires approval from the Coordinator of Student Employment
The job classification system has 6 pay rate categories:
- Grade A $8.00 - minimum wage as of 1-1-2008
- Grade B Step 1 $8.25 first year working in the department
- Grade B Step 2 $8.50 students returning to the same Level B job for second year and after.
- Grade C Step 1 $8.75 first year working in the department.
- Grade C Step 2 $9.00 students returning to the same Level C job for second year and after. This level includes academic and writing workshop tutors and research assistants
- Grade D $9.50 student supervisors
Notes:
- A full time job is at least 6 hours/week for the academic year.
- These pay rates also apply to off-campus Federal Work Study jobs.

All students are paid according to the listed rates. There will be no exceptions.
