Volunteer for "First Picks"
The volunteer program is tremendously popular among students. If a student volunteers to help at the Library for three hours each semester, they get first dibs on the books they need: they get into the Library the day before everyone else, when the shelves are full, to select their books. Working behind the scenes at the Library gives students a sense of ownership and pride in the Library — and it helps that I always have cookies, cupcakes, juice and sodas for them to munch on! The atmosphere is always festive.
