Food Committee: Welcome
September 1, 2009
Dear Members of the Student Food Committee,
Welcome back to the Purple Valley! It is great to see everyone back and to see the campus come alive.
It was a busy summer with planning menus and coming up with new recipes. The department kicked off the start of a new year with our annual training days in August.
In other news, I am happy to announce that Whitmans’ received the annual “Food Committee Award” award based on voting from last year’s Food Committee. The award will be announced to Whitmans’ staff at our department meeting on September 30th. Certainly a well deserved recognition for Whitmans’.
Our support of Peace Valley Farm benefited with Kelsie Meehan’s ’11 help over the summer. She coordinated purchasing of local products with the farm in each of the dining halls. Special attention was given to making items such as pickles and giardenera and freezing products such as basil pesto, butternut squash, and other vegetables for use during the school year.
As done in the past our meetings have been scheduled for 6 p.m. in different dining halls. The first meeting will be September 22nd in the Wilson Room of Greylock.
