Re:Annual Activity Report and Merit Raises
Below you’ll find the guidelines for submitting an annual activity report. If you wish to be eligible for a merit raise, please be sure to submit this report to the office of the Dean of the Faculty, with a copy to the chair of your department and/or program, by January 11, 2008.
To complete the report, you may choose simply to list your accomplishments over the past calendar year, including even a highlighted c.v. if that would save time. You should feel free, however, to provide additional comments about your teaching, scholarship, and service. Since this is a communication to me and, through me, to the Provost and the President, it is also an opportunity for you to raise issues and concerns with us or just to let us know how you are doing.
To reiterate, only those who submit an annual activity report are eligible for merit raises. Merit raises are awarded for exceptional accomplishments, achievements, and/or service in the area of teaching, scholarship, service to the College or to the profession more broadly, or a combination of these areas. For example, a merit raise can recognize a consistent record of very strong teaching, exceptional service to the College or the profession, scholarly or creative achievements such as the publication of a book or major article, the completion of a major project, the award of a national fellowship or grant, and so on. Since the number of merit increases awarded each year is limited, submission of an annual activity report does not automatically ensure that one will receive a merit increase. But it does activate your eligibility. The decisions are made by me, in consultation with the President and the Provost. Please note that although most merit raises are awarded to tenured faculty, untenured faculty are eligible to receive merit awards and are encouraged to submit this report.
Annual Activity Report
Please describe any noteworthy achievements and contributions in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service during calendar year 2007. Upon completion, please submit your remarks and an up-to-date CV to the Dean of the Faculty, along with a copy to your department and/or program chair, by January 11. Hard copy is preferred, but if you need to submit this report as an email attachment, send it to barbara.pietras@williams.edu.
